Activity:Session On importance of having a balance diet - Nutritious Food and Food Hygiene at
Vidya Bhavan Orphanage, Medahalli
The students of M.Sc FST interacted with 30 kids, aged 6 to 14. The event began at 3:00 pm with an introductory session followed by a talent show, displaying their impressive dancing skills, yoga, karate, and musical talents. In return, our students introduced themselves and performed a song for them.The students initiated the educational session by introducing the concept of a balanced diet using the 'perfect plate' model, illustrating the ideal proportions of different food groups for each meal, significance of carbohydrates as energy sources, importance of fats in our diet, along with the distinction between good and bad fats, significance of water, vitamins and minerals in our diet, educating them about their various dietary sources and the consequences of deficiency diseases. Students demonstrated appropriate hand washing techniques to encourage practical hygiene, instill good hygiene practices, and lower the risk of illnesses and ended the session by 6:00pm.
